3/52 - A Stylish Puppy

At 15 weeks old Bea is already showing the 'stylish' border collie crouch for which her breed is known.

3/52 - A Stylish Puppy
Camera:   Canon EOS 7D
Canon Exposure Mode:  Manual
Lens: Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS
Focal Length; 400mm
Shutter: 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture: f/5.6
ISO: 500

I had a rough time this week picking my selection.  For this shot, the sun was setting, low in the sky, lit up Bea's eyes perfectly & cast a lovely golden hue. Because the weather was gorgeous for a few days we were able to do more shooting outside. I was blessed with so many great shots it was hard to choose! I went with the one above because it shows what Bea is going to grow into...a working sheep dog.

Her ears are mostly in the fully upright position.  The ear on the left is still flopping around a bit, but will fully upright here soon.

She is starting to look less like a puppy and more like the dog she will grow into.

Her personality is beginning to emerge too.

She is a serious little girl.  While she enjoys playing, especially with Brynn, she is rather no nonsense about it.  When she is tired, she is done and will find her spot to lie down and snooze, usually right at my feet.

She goes 100 mph, then drops.

Whatever she is doing, she is fully dedicated to the task at hand. Not much gets by her.

Sphinx Puppy

An absolute joy.

2/52 I Haz Ears!

This week Bea's ears popped up!  What could be better than to focus on her ears for this week's selection.

2/52 I Haz EARS!   - Shot January 10, 2011

Shooting Information:  Manual Exposure, 1/160, f1.8,  ISO 1000, Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 MkII

The shot above is pretty much straight out of the camera (SOOC) with only a small crop, added signature and adjusting the white balance a bit.  I thought the white was a bit over exposed and thought I would play with it a bit in post processing.

I added a texture & selective color emphasizing the eyes and ears.  It was hard to choose between them....

Which one do you like best?

52 Weeks for Dogs - Bea 1/52

The purpose of this blog is to document 52 weeks of Bea, through the 52 Weeks for Dogs group on Flickr.

What is 52 Weeks for Dogs?
Flickr's Original 52 Weeks for Dogs group is home to flickr's die-hard dog and photo addicts ... which showcases 1-year photo projects and a wealth of information about dogs and photography.

"The group is after more than quick snap shots of your dogs.  The idea is to push the boundaries, examine new sides of your best friend, see things in them that perhaps you have not seen before, or try new shooting methods.  The idea is to be fun and creative...every week."
This is my second year doing this project.  Last year I documented 52 Weeks of Ranger

This year it is Bea!  A fun year ahead, full of new puppy moments, the first time on sheep, growing, changing and morphing into an adult.  It should be fun!

1/52  Bea in the Hoar Frost - Shot January 3, 2011

Shooting Information:  Manual exposure
Camera:   Canon EOS 7D
Exposure: 0.002 sec (1/640)
Aperature:  f5.0
ISO: 400
Focal Length: 135 mm
Lens: Canon EF 135mm f/2L

It was fun trying to get this shot.  Bea was watching the dogs play through the fence.  It was one of those lucky moments ... the frost was stunning, she was in the right place and the lighting was perfect.  The shots leading up to this one were cute too.

manual exposure, f3.5, 1/1000, ISO 400

I had a hard time choosing between the one above and this one...I felt her expression in my selection was a bit more intense, this shot she looks worried.
Manual exposure, f5.0, 1/640, ISO 400

This one she looks a wee bit freaked out...but it still makes me giggle.

Manual exposure, f5.0, 1/640, ISO 400

Can't wait to see what this year will bring!
